Art is a language that we can all use to communicate

For the longest time, this statement was simply not true to me.

There are some pieces of art that I honestly and completely, do not understand.

So what do I mean when I say, we can all communicate with each other through art?

If you think you're not an art lover, maybe have a second look at the things surrounding you day by day.

The clothes that you choose to wear,

The furniture that you fill your home with,

The movies that you love to watch,

The music that you listen to everyday,

The food at your favourite restaurant,

The book that you read again and again,

The video game that you play for hours,

The decoration of a cafe that you go to frequently,

The picture that you have hanging up the wall,

The bouquet of flowers that you bought as a gift,

....

Behind each of these things, there is an artist who invested their time and imagination into creating, to bring you something that wouldn't otherwise exist.

I do believe each and every one of us have the power to create.

We are part of nature, and the forces of nature are creation and destruction.

We can choose to use our time, energy and intelligence in creating, instead of destroying.

Creating to bring dreams and visions into reality, instead of destroying our body, mind, and planet.

To do this requires our conscious attention on finding inspirations to create.

And since the history of human consciousness, we have left limitless inspirations. Through story telling with art.

It's the first thing we did when we evolved.

From cave paintings, to broken ceramics, pyramids, giant statues,

to the ressainance paintings, black and white photography, the earliest music instruments, to modern day movies, video games, virtual reality, and now AI art,

We constantly invent new ways to tell our stories,

stories of our aspirations and dreams,

stories of our struggles and wars,

our versions of reality and visions of possible futures,

stories of the love and hate we have for each other,

and so much more.

When we see something we don't understand, we fill the gap with personal interpretation.

In that sense, each and every piece of art is understandable, in a way that make sense and is unique to each individual.

Even when you may not understand a piece of art, but every time you touch or look at one, you feel.

You either feel a sensation, or an emotion, or something, or nothing, or all of them at once.

Sometimes we feel emotions that we can identify, sometimes we do not understand them,

But we feel and learn something, and that is uniquely human.

Art tells stories that transcend the boundary of time and any human languages.

It is the language of the soul, which we use to communicate with each other.

To speak this language, you simply have to be present.

Present in the moment of time that an art is presented to you.

Use your senses to observe, feel and think.

Then say what you feel and think, in another way that you know how to communicate.

Let it be your mother tongue and tell another soul about what you think and feel.

Or let it be your creative gift, to create another piece of art that show how you think and feel.

Or do any say nothing, and let what you think and feel be a part of your living experience.

Now that art has been a part of you, your mind, your world, your story.

And it will live on, one way or another.

That is when art has done its job.

The world's oldest known cave painting: a life-sized picture of a wild pig that was made at least 45,500 years ago in Indonesia.

Thanks for reading my piece of mind. Let me know your own interpretation of art. You can agree or disagree with me completely, either way I'm curious to know your thoughts. Let me know in the comments below. And if you'd like to read more, subscribe to my mail list for future blog posts!

From my heart to yours,
